Kukuh K. Hadiwidjojo commenced practising law in Indonesia in 1997 after graduating from the University of Indonesia, and further attended the same university for the Notary Master Degree and graduated in 2006. Currently, he is Doctor of Law Candidate, also from the University of Indonesia. With his extensive knowledge, innovative insights and approach in the legal practice, he has handled and successfully represented clients in the banking and finance, merger and acquisition, debt restructuring, and the capital-market field.
In the financial and banking sector, Kukuh has wide-raging experiences. In the 1998 Asian financial crisis, he was involved in bank resolutions, takeover and recapitalization, also involved in asset recovery measures and deposit guarantee program scheme. In 2004, he was acting as an attorney, on behalf of PT Bank Global International Tbk (in liquidation process), facing the bankruptcy petition made by the unsatisfied customers. The most notorious bankruptcy case in 2005, since the case was about the bank in liquidation process which was sued for bankruptcy by some of the customers. Kukuh won the case, and according to him, if Bank Global was declared bankrupt, the state could potentially suffer a loss of Rp732.9 billion. The bankruptcy process is not under the supervision of Bank Indonesia (at that time) and therefore does not guarantee the return of the state's money. The public trust in banks will decrease or even disappear altogether because customers as concurrent creditors find it difficult to recover their funds in the bankruptcy process. In 2008, during the global economic crisis, Kukuh also engaged by Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (IDIC) in handling a systemic failing bank, PT Bank Century Tbk.
In the capital market sector, Kukuh is registered as Capital Market Legal Consultant (HKHPM) and presently he is a secretary of Standard Council of HKHPM. He has comprehensive experiences in supporting many companies in the capital market area, among others, are PT Nippon Indosari Corpindo Tbk (ROTI), PT Suryamas Duta Makmur Tbk (SMDM) and PT Bank Tabungan Pensiun Nasional Tbk (BTPN).
Not only the financial and banking sector or capital market sector, Kukuh as well as extensive commercial, arbitration and criminal litigation. He has succeeded in proving the innocent defendant to be acquitted of criminal charges in Dana Pensiun Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (DAPEN PKT) case. In conducting investments in the capital market, DAPEN PKT is considered to have committed an illegal act in violation of the Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan or known as OJK) regulations.
Based on the facts of the trial and the evidence submitted, the Judicial Panel of the Corruption Crime Court at District Court of Central Jakarta decided and tried that the defendants were not proven to have committed criminal acts of corruption beyond a reasonable doubt as referred to in the Prosecution Application of the Prosecutor, and therefore decided an acquittal verdict (vrijspraak). Law enforcement in the financial services sector has proven to be not easy. The effect on the financial services sector is also likely to affect the stability and national economic system. The Distortion will also affect the legal certainty in the financial services sector, and the industry is in dire need of legal certainty to create a stable and sustainable economic system
As a legal practitioner, Kukuh is also frequently a speaker in training, seminars or engage in a talk show about the law. Among them are training on capital market law, legal contract drafting, limited liability company, business law, family law and inheritance law.
